NFL Pioneer Remembers Playing on Michigan State Football’s First Integrated Team in the 1960s

Gene Washington played 7 seasons in the NFL and played in Super Bowl IV. Prior to becoming an NFL pioneer, Gene played at Michigan State University during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. He was a member of the coveted university’s first fully integrated team. His daughter, Maya Washington, chronicles her father’s legendary career in a book called, “Through the Banks of the Red Cedar: My Father and the Team That Changed the Game.” Gene and Maya sit down with Tamron Hall.
